- Description:
- The Clumber Spaniel is an English flushing spaniel, named for Clumber Park. It was used as a close-working bird dog and later as a companion. The AKC places it in the Sporting Group; the UKC classes it as a Gun Dog.
- Temperament:
- Clumbers are typically gentle, stubborn in a quiet way, and devoted to their people. They are not as frantic as some spaniels. They still need walks; a heavy dog that sits all day gets sore and fat.
- Training:
- Be patient. They learn, but they do not hurry to please the way a Border Collie does.
- Care & Grooming:
- Brush the long coat and keep the heavy ears clean. Watch the eyes; the deep stop can collect debris.
- Shedding:
- Moderate to heavy.
- Health:
- Clumber Spaniels may develop hip and elbow dysplasia, intervertebral disc disease, and eye problems. Keep them lean.
