- Description:
- The French Spaniel, or Epagneul Francais, is an old French pointing spaniel used on birds in field and wood. It works at a moderate pace with a keen nose. The UKC classes it as a Gun Dog.
- Temperament:
- These spaniels are typically gentle, people-oriented, and eager to hunt. They are usually good house dogs if they get enough field work. A bored French Spaniel will find a scent trail.
- Training:
- Use quiet, consistent training. Start pointing and retrieving manners early.
- Care & Grooming:
- Brush the feathering weekly and dry the ears after work in wet cover.
- Shedding:
- Moderate.
- Health:
- The breed is generally sturdy. Ear infections and hip dysplasia can occur, as in other spaniels.
