- Description:
- The Jindo is a hunting and companion dog from Jindo Island in Korea. It is the National Dog of Korea and is known for a strong homing instinct. The AKC lists the breed in FSS; the UKC classes it as a Northern Breed.
- Temperament:
- Jindos are typically loyal to one household, reserved with strangers, and independent. They have a strong prey drive and do not always get along with other dogs. They are not a soft first-time companion breed.
- Training:
- Be consistent and start socialization early. They think for themselves and will leave if the rules make no sense.
- Care & Grooming:
- Brush weekly, and daily when the undercoat blows. A secure fence is more important than fancy trimming.
- Shedding:
- Seasonal and heavy.
- Health:
- The breed is generally hardy. Hypothyroidism and hip dysplasia can occur; keep the dog lean.
