- Description:
- The Pumi is a Hungarian herding breed developed from the Puli with terrier and German spitz influence. It is a quick cattle and sheep dog. The AKC lists the breed in FSS; the UKC classes it as a Herding Dog.
- Temperament:
- Pumik are typically busy, vocal, and tied to their handler. They need a job and can bark more than a quiet companion owner wants. They are usually good with their own people.
- Training:
- They learn quickly and enjoy agility and herding work. Keep sessions varied.
- Care & Grooming:
- Comb the curly coat regularly so it does not felt. It is not a corded coat like the Puli.
- Shedding:
- Low to moderate.
- Health:
- Pumik may develop hip dysplasia and degenerative myelopathy in some lines. Ask breeders about testing.
