- Description:
- The Spanish Mastiff, or Mastin Espanol, is a flock guardian from the Spanish plains and mountains. It traveled with the merino flocks on the old Mesta routes.
- Temperament:
- This is a calm, independent guardian. It is typically devoted to its own household and reserved with strangers. It needs space and a role, not a busy suburban sidewalk.
- Training:
- Socialize early and keep the rules quiet and firm.
- Care & Grooming:
- Brush weekly. Grow this giant slowly and do not exercise hard after meals.
- Shedding:
- Moderate; heavier seasonally.
- Health:
- As with other giant mastiffs, hip dysplasia and bloat can occur. Keep the dog lean.

- 10–12 years
