The Swedish Vallhund is a low, powerful herding spitz with a wolf-gray coat, erect ears, and a long or naturally short tail. The outline is longer than tall, built to heel cattle.

Color(s):: Gray to red-brown sable, with darker harness markings; white is limited

Description:: The Swedish Vallhund is a cattle-heeling farm dog from Sweden, sometimes compared to the Welsh Corgi though the two breeds developed separately. The AKC places it in the Herding Group; the UKC classes it as a Herding Dog.
Temperament:: Vallhunds are typically busy, watchful, and tied to their handler. They can be vocal and may try to heel children or other pets. They need a job.
Training:: They learn quickly and enjoy herding and agility work. Keep sessions short and clear.
Care & Grooming:: Brush weekly, more often when the undercoat blows. Keep this long-backed dog lean.
Shedding:: Seasonal and moderate to heavy.
Health:: Swedish Vallhunds may develop hip dysplasia, a breed-related retinopathy, and back strain. Limit jumping off furniture.
Lifespan:: 12–15 years
